This little beast is a very, very eerie and dark collection of metallic percussive and semimelodic effects, ideal for use in horror and suspend scoring, sound design, trailer effects and post production, experimental and ambient music, or anything else you can think to do with it. The origins of the strange creation/discovery will remain a forbidden secret – even though we had a contest where over 130 people tried to guess its origins. What we can tell you is that we beat and played the hell out of it… or in to it, depending on how you look at it. We used bows, mallets, metal rods, rubber balls, fingers, fists, drum sticks, nylon, metal brushes, rasps and files water and earth to lift all manner of demon song from this contraption.

The Spirit Flute is originally an instrument played by Native Americans. It has been used in countless New Age and World Music recordings and is known for its distinctive and at times – almost haunting sound. The instrument was originally played without accompaniment in courtship, healing, meditation, and spiritual rituals. Now it is played solo, along with other instruments or vocals, or with backing tracks both in Native American music and in other styles. Microhammer sampled a high-quality, upper range Spirit Flute. The flute has a beautiful, soft, high-pitched tone. The pressure of air blown into the flute dictates its octave levels and the library covers a lot of the typical multi-octave FX phrases commonly heard in soundtracks.

In much the same way that the rain stick harnesses the essence of rain, the Sand Drum harnesses the essence of the entire ocean; hundreds of quintillions of gallons of water. The unique surf-like sound is produced by a medium-sized enclosed drum about 1 1/4" thick and filled with dozens of tiny silver metal beads. When gently rocked and rotated in a circular motion, the sand drum produces an amazing tidal effect, like waves ebbing and flowing. In addition to the ambient effects it creates, the sand drum, being a "drum" is also a unique percussion instrument offering a variety of different percussive elements. All core hit articulations were recorded at 10 x round robin. This library includes custom front-panel controls and modwheel automation to allow pitch adjustment of up to +/- 24 semitones, as well as room wetness re-shaping, going from tight and close to full and lush.

Each pipe produces sound of one fixed pitch, so they are provided in sets with one pipe or more per note, each set or stop having a common timbre and loudness throughout. The Lakeside Organ has multiple sets of pipes of differing timbre, pitch and loudness which the player can employ singly or in combination. The actual organ is made from three keyboards, played by the hands, and a pedal board for bass notes, played by the feet, each of which controls its own group of stops. We carefully recorded the organ at a variety of different settings, which allows the user to control the timbre of the organ. We recorded five different settings comparably from PP to FF. All settings recorded at two microphone positions (close/far), so user have ultimately flexibility between 10 different organ settings. Additionally we realized that many other organ sample libraries use noise reduction, which gives a more polished/clinical sound to the organ. We decided to take the opposite approach and allow all the air sounds in the library, since a variety of the “noise” is the air produced by the pipes. This means that the organ has a more full and airy sound (especially in softer settings), which gives a more emotional expression.

Created by producer / composer / remixer Andrew Aversa (also known as zircon) over the course of two years, Shreddage is capable of reproducing almost any riff with accuracy, according to Impact Soundworks.

Shreddage features 24-bit, 44.1 kHz multisamples (not loops) mapped using an exclusive left hand / right hand, Velocity-controlled setup that does not require the use of special MIDI CCs or scripting. The instrument was recorded direct-in and at eight round-robins for all articulations, such as sustains, powerchords, palm mutes, fast mutes, half mutes, pinch squeals, slides, and more.
