Lust is my overly indulgent attempt to infuse wanton sensuality in a typeface. I wanted to create something that was over the top but veered away from my loose “sushi” scripts, Fugu and Nori, yet was altogether reliable, without the rigidity akin to my Aaux Next series -- but it had to be, well, a little sexy. The solution was to create a curvy serif. A serif would be a different endeavor for me since I consciously choose not to do many serifs -- because there are so many wonderful options already! Because of this, my approach (and design) had to be different. Here’s how I broke down what I felt it needed to have under the covers to create this “lusty” typeface: Lots of contrast, almost demure, coy contrast mixed with the flowing curves of a woman’s body, incomplete, almost teasing ball terminals, and serifs that went on forever-- so sharp they would draw blood if you touched them. The result yielded a rather diverse typographic gene pool: a little Scotch Modern, a little Didone and Didot, a dominant dose of Caslon, and a pinch of Baskerville-- all wrapped up in the leggy body of a Brazilian supermodel. A confident, self-reliant typeface that shows just enough to keep everyone staring and leave them wanting more. With this design done, I moved to make it even more desirable and created the display variants with double the contrast! WARNING! I cannot stress this enough. Please know what you are getting into with this typeface. Like a supermodel, it can't be squeezed into every situation. It needs room and size to breathe. The regular weights can support 36-point or higher settings, whereas the display weights shine above 72-point (preferably 100-point). Lust is packed with alternates to play with-- enough to turn you on and satisfy. Utilizing the OpenType features (and Glyph palette) wisely will have you weaving through endless variations of Stylistic, Contextual, Titling, Historical and Swash alternates-- and the Italic styles feature a Contextual system that allows you to switch seamlessly between Didone and Scotch traits in order to better complement the upright variants.

Tabac Slab was created by combining several contradictory influences, the result of which is a universal linear font. The combination of brisk serifs and refined calligraphic details in the structure of the characters serves to create an original concept that mixes influences from both book and advertising graphics. Serifs aid legibility in long texts, while small drawn details realise their full potential in sizes of twenty-four points and larger. The basis for our Egyptienne was Tabac Sans, with which Slab logically forms a harmonic duo. The addition of bracket-less serifs caused the typeface to thicken and become solidly anchored on the lines, giving a firm answer to all typographers who like to complain about the slight exuberance of grotesque fonts.

Due to its popularity online, Verdana has effectively become the default sans serif typeface. Yet in print it tends to looks too heavy and a little unwieldy. As a response to this, FontFont released FF Basic Gothic. Influenced by the early sans serif typefaces of the 19th century and developed for today’s highest standards, it is a sans serif optimized for maximum legibility. With its functional, basic look, it is willful but pleasant at the same time. Inspired by the unique letter forms of Gill Sans and Antique Olive, designers Hannes von Döhren and Livius F. Dietzel searched for exceptional yet legible proportions. At the same time, the letters were stripped down to their basic forms, with precise curves and straight lines, making FF Basic Gothic extremely versatile for a multitude of applications. Corporate Designers like the family’s extended weight range, too. The type family performs especially well in small sizes, both in print and on the screen—thanks to the hinting experts of the FontFont Type Department. The heavy weights have stronger contrasts and unfold their strength in bigger sizes. They have an eye-catching appearance in newspaper or magazine headlines.FF Basic Gothic is equipped for complex, professional typography. The OpenType Pro fonts have an extended character set to support Central and Eastern European as well as Western European languages. Each font includes small caps, fractions, old style, lining and tabular numbers, scientific superior/inferior figures, alternates, and a set of arrows.

Arek is Rosetta’s award-winning type family for Latin and Armenian. The design draws on extensive research of traditional manuscripts, and it emphasises the distinctive, calligraphic roots of Armenian, especially in the highly original cursive style which breaks new ground for Armenian typography in the digital age. Details such as serif and terminal styles are shared between Latin and Armenian, and visual harmony is enhanced by common vertical proportions, sensitively engineered through the modest x-height in the Latin. Originally designed for school books, Arek equips the typographer with ten styles suitable for the whole range of editorial and other typesetting environments. The family also provides expert features such as ligatures, lining and old-style figures, and contextual alternates. Arek won Granshan 2010 (Armenian text face) and received the prestigious Letter.2 award.
